A Picture A Day (Week 4)

My Journey along SG50

* Graffiti

In Festival

Singapore Street Festival was held from July 24th until August 10thThe festival exhibited a series of amazing street arts featuring on “My Singapore Superheroes”. I was delighted to appreciate an ever changing display of paintings with strong visual impact. The trip to paradise of street arts was an unforgettable experience.

The colors, skillsstyle and composition applied by street artists lead up to an inspiring and remarkable festival . Some pieces were integrated with local cultures in a way viewers could feel related to the drawings. For instance, the word “Kanchiong” projected the characteristic hectic and stressful life style leaded by most Singaporeans.

In school

NAFA was another great area to visit while on pursuit of spectacular graffiti arts. Although these graffiti arts could not be on a par with the works in the festival, each graffiti had its own special appeal and unique style. The talent might still be raw but if polished properly, it would no doubt shine brilliantly in the near future.

* National Day of Singapore

Singapore had achieved independence in 1965. Despite major disadvantages such as tiny size of island and severe lack of natural resources, this country miraculously succeeded against the odds and emerged on the world stage as a global financial centre and significant commercial hub.

9th of August was the celebration of Singapore's National Day. Moreover, 50th anniversary of independence was commemorated this year. In spite of traffic congestion and the masses, citizens still insisted to show their support for the nation by coming together with the rest of Singapore to celebrate. This truly fitted “One people, One Nation, One Singapore”.

Magnificent Firework Show at Marina Bay.
I could only admire the firework from a distance due to huge crowd.

* Rag & Flag

Rag & Flag was an annual event organised by National University of Singapore (NUS) . On RAG Day, wonderful lively performances were put together with love to express gratitude to the community for the funds raised during FLAG Day*.

FLAG Day, which students from the various halls and faculties ventured out across Singapore to seek donations from the public. ALL donations received will go towards helping 19 charities supported by the Community Chest.

The scale of programme was revealed to be larger than before for the university’s 110th anniversary celebration which coincided with the Nation’s Golden Jubilee. The audience was awed by a stunning array of colorful and vibrant floats. Spectators were fascinated by splendidly choreographed dance items.

In the end no one could deny the fact that national unity was necessity for the prosperity and welfare of the country. The value of integrity should be instilled in the hearts and minds of the multiracial citizens in Malaysia. People from all walks of life must co-operate and act as a whole to maintain the peace and stability of our beloved homeland.
